Concert Photography: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

On Wednesday I got to see the Seattle hip-hop sensation, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, live at Hamburger Börs and it was undoubtedly one of the best concerts I have seen in a while. Coming from the Seattle area I was of course familiar with the name Macklemore, but only recently started listening to their music. It didn't take long, however to become completely enamored.

Fat beats with beautiful lyrical interludes and text that hits home on so many fronts- gay rights, drug addiction, consumerism, blind patriotism, religion. And hell, they even rap about the M's winning the AL west in 1995. What Seattlite wouldn't love them? And seeing them live, I fell in love just a little bit more. So much energy, locking stage presence, and a lack of self-seriousness that makes you smile. I've been to a good deal of concerts in Stockholm but rarely have I ever seen a crowd so energized, so into the music as when bouncing to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Guess it's no wonder they sold out their previous 8 European shows before heading to Stockholm.

*Couldn't find out who the opener was, but here's a shot from their set.
